Evaluation Media

In my evaluation I am going to describe what I have been doing in the project set for the Pre-luminary Task.

The forms and Conventions of my media product are quite similar to products the Media has produced in this case a College Magazine Front Cover Design and Contents Page. For example on my Front Cover there is a Selling line which is ‘Everything a top C.T.K student needs to know!’

Also there is a price tag in the Right-hand corner of the magazine which is used quite a lot. I put what number issue it was and the date, it has a mast head at the top of the magazine which is also quite popular in magazines these days I also added a barcode and I think I added my bit to it which was the gradient tool because not many magazine covers fade from one colour to the next. So I would say for the majority of the magazine I have followed closely a long the lines of a conventional method. My contents page is quite a simple one and I think the way it is set out is a simple design but it looks slightly different than a normal design because I put a bit of my own design into it. The text is clear easy to read there are page numbers.

My media product represents the social group of teenagers who go to college. The sense of reality created is with the image is a young black girl with a book in her hand showing that she is learning the props used connotes she is learning she is casually dressed which is a typical college student clothes for the vast majority of colleges. Her NVC is clearly showing that she is happy and contented jewellery looks pretty basic and earrings are typical earrings worn today. The text used is text easy tot read and quite nice to look at and so I didn’t really include any slang accept for the word ‘hubbub’ which means what’s all the noise as it were. Also I put important things on the cover for example ‘coursework Deadlines and a lot of people want to know this. Sports News is another topic with big news. I advertised the LRC and at the end of giving short bullet points on it said ‘ALL FOR YOU!!’ in capital letters so its really leaping off the page to catch someone eye. The Christ the king text I spent quite some time on because in my mind’s eye I wanted it look to flashy and stand out form the writing used on the Front Cover I got the look I wanted for it. Also the girl on the front is quite attractive. My Contents page was basic but it has a few pictures of students from around the college all of what they are wearing are clothes more or less worn today they are all smiling some are holding books with others showing that they are in a learning and sharing environment. The text used was clear and legible writing. I decide to use normal language to appeal to a wider range of teenagers because not all teenagers understand or use slang and so for the benefit of those who don’t use slang I decided to use Standard English. The students that I took pictures of are the age group I want to appeal to.

Lastly I have learnt a lot about using the Adobe Photoshop for example the functions of the tools like I used the magnetic Lasso to cut my student from her original picture and place on a blank canvas I used the gradient tool to get the effect of one colour fading to another. I used the smudge tool to soft the area of where I smoothen out the student’s hair. I changed the blending options on most of the text put on the Front Page. But I think if I was more experienced in using Adobe Photoshop then I would have been able to show off more of my skill but I have known quite a bit in Photoshop enough to make my magazine look conventional. I think if I was to re-do this project I would give myself more time to use and understand the Packages E.G Adobe Photoshop I am using.
